For many patients seeking to improve their appearance, the upper arm represents a particularly troubling body part. Despite dieting and multiple arm exercises, some patients feel like they are stuck with either heavy or saggy upper arms. Brachioplasty or arm lift is a surgical procedure by which excess skin and fat from the upper arm are removed. When there is minimal skin excess and good elasticity, lipoplasty (liposuction) is often sufficient. As we age, or if major weight loss occurs, the upper arm begins to sag due to the great affect of gravity, skin laxity, and thinning skin, muscle and fat tissues. An Arm Lift does not affect muscle tone, and normal physical activity is not only possible but highly recommended once recovery is complete.

A brachioplasty procedure may not be appropriate for people with certain medical or physical conditions. Patients who have had mastectomy surgery may not be able to have a brachioplasty because of the increased risks associated with a procedure of this nature. Patients who have experienced repeated armpit infections or experience excess sweat production may also not be good candidates for brachioplasty cosmetic surgery.

The best candidates for upper arm lift are those who loose excess upper arm skin. You should be physically healthy, psychologically stable and realistic in your expectations. Your age is not a major consideration. The best time to consider upper arm lift is after you have stabilized your weight through diet and exercise.
