Featherlift

Instead of the invasive, traditional facelift that involves the removal of skin, fat and tissue, the FeatherLift® system uses barbed threads to pull skin tighter without cutting. The Featherlift technique developed in 1996 by Russian father and son cosmetic surgeons Drs. Marlen and Georgi Sulamanidze, involves the use of suture like threads made from a special bio-compatible material.
The procedure actually involves facial lifting, (not pulling) which is done with Aptos threads. The Aptos threads are made of a monofilament material call “polypropylene”. A full face featherlift would require 18 threads, usually 2 for each brow, 3 for each cheek, 2 for each jaw line and 2 for each side of the neck, although not everyone may need a full lifting procedure.
The threads used in this procedure are called Aptos threads. Its name is derived from the Latin words for not drooping, which are anti-ptosis. These fine polypropylene threads have small barbs or cogs cut into the length of the thread in the same direction. These cogs provide lift and contour by forming a permanent support structure for the facial tissue.
Like many cosmetic procedures, it’s possible to turn back the clock a little but we can’t keep it from ticking. The threads are made of a permanent material and will produce lifting for at least two years and longer, depending on the individual. With further time and sagging, more threads can be placed or a facelifts done if desired.
