The MACS lift (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension Lift) was described as a modification of the S-lift by a Belgian group in 2001. The MACS facelift is often preferred because it is less invasive than other face lift procedures and leaves a shorter scar.
A facelift can be combined with other procedures such as eyelid surgery, neck lift, brow lift or liposuction.
The operation can be performed under general anesthesia, local anesthesia with intravenous sedation, oral sedation or local anesthesia. The MACS procedure takes about 1.5 hours less time than the standard procedure and can easily be combined with lower lids blepharoplasty or other procedures which might be indicated. When performed under local anesthesia with oral sedation plan for an extra 30 to 45 minutes for the instillation of the local anesthetic. The advantages of the MACS lift are shorter operating time, quicker recovery and return to normal lifestyle with elimination of the retroauricular scar. It is well perceived by patients as a very cost effective rejuvenation treatment.
At the beginning your face will look a little puffy and may feel rather strange and stiff. The scars can be very well hidden by women with their hair and disc shaped earrings so that they should be able to resume work and social activities within a couple of weeks. Camouflage make-up can be helpful in masking bruising.

Risks & Complications
There are risks associated with MACS Lifts including hair loss which can be caused by a reaction to the incisions within the hairline, serious scarring and rough skin. Other risks include nerve damage which can cause paralysis of part or all of the movement of the facial muscles caused by the initial incisions and numbness of the face.
